With the media shoved in our face everywhere that we go, our visual appearance has become a huge part in our every day lives. Whether it is tanning, hair coloring, plastic surgery, or Anti-aging cream, we can see the dominance of image in our society. Everyone wants to look young, healthy, and like Brad Pitt, Right?

As a result of this pressure on image, Anti-aging creams are a heavily marketed and advertised product, promising to deliver healthier and younger looking skin, while reducing wrinkles. Most of the time these creams are targetted at women, but we are now beginning to see products that are more targeted to men as well. This shift is because are society is starting to more readily accept men being conscious about their looks and image.

A Quality Meal to Support Your Fitness Goal is Easy

I've had many people - especially friends, asking me what is it that I eat for my daily meals, how am I able to consume adequate protein everyday (I try to get about 170g protein daily), is fried rice after a workout okay, and so on. In fact, a friend sent me at least 10 text messages last night just to ensure that what he was about to eat for dinner wasnt going to ruin his nutrition plan.

Actually, I think getting sufficient protein/carbohydrates in a meal isnt really difficult at all. When I eat, and when I plan my meals - what I do is to go by what I feel and what I have. Of course, I don't go eating everything in sight, but try to accomodate and improve whatever I may already have prepared and waiting for dinner at home, for example. For me, back home there's always rice and other side dishes. However, there is almost always insufficient protein for it to be a decent meal for me.. so what do I do? Easy - just boil some eggs and eat it in addition to your dinner. See my writeup on why eggs are an excellent source of protein.

Or if you can already anticipate that there's not going to be a decent meal at home, then be like me and get a roasted chicken from a nearby hypermarket (these are cheap, approx RM5 - 8 per bird) and keep it in the fridge - ready for you to cut out whenever you wish to bump up the protein content of your meals.

As for me, it helps when my mom (yes, yes, I live with my parents :P) tells me beforehand what she's preparing for dinner. So if there's not enough protein to satisfy my requirements - I'll know and will usually stop at a store to pick up more eggs, etc if I don't have anything stored at home.

For the hardcore lazy and clueless ones, to be safe - you can make it a point that there is always an ample supply of eggs, milk, and some sort of cereal present at all times so you can always have a meal if there really is nothing to eat.

As you can see, it isn't a picture of the typical 'perfect' balanced meal that you always see in fitness magazines or most people would think I'm having everyday, but hey - it does the job for me. I can see decent improvements and am still able to get lean with just slight increases to the amount of cardio I do. That, for me is all the nutrition that I need. Simple and straightforward, and with a touch of mom's cooking even.

Eight Natural Alternatives to AntiInflammatory Medication

Most people are surprised when I tell them that in Canada alone two people a day will die as a result of bleeding due to anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication. As a result of these tragedies, the drug companies produced the supposed answer to this dilemma. The Cox 2 Inhibitors such as Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra were supposed to be a far safer and effective medication. However, in late 2004 and early in 2005 the Cox 2 inhibitors were found to have serious adverse reactions.

In September of 2004, Vioxx was pulled from the market after a study showed that patients taking the drug had twice the risk of suffering a heart attack. In December, 2004, Pfizer announced that Celebrex more than doubled the risk of heart attack in a long term cancer trial. In addition, Bextra was also found to double the incidence of heart attack and stroke.

In light of all of these significant warning signs, increasing numbers of patients, particularly those with arthritis, are seeking pain relief through alternative methods -- and they're in luck. Patients can work with their own knowledgeable health care professional who understands natural medicine, to develop the best combination of herbal alternatives for them.

Alternatives to Anti-Inflammatory Medication:

1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids From Fish Oils: The omega-3 fats EPA and DHA found in fish oil have been found by many animal and clinical studies to possess anti-inflammatory properties that promote joint lubrication and decrease joint inflammation. Animal based omega-3 fats form the precursors to the molecules that actually produce or inhibit inflammation in your body (prostaglandins). 4. Cetyl Myristoleate (CMO): This oil, found in fish and dairy butter, acts as a joint lubricant and an anti-inflammatory. In one study of 106 people with various types of arthritis who did not respond to NSAIDs, 63.5 percent of those who took CMO orally and applied the cream topically (it's available both in oral supplement and cream forms) improved, compared to only 14.5 percent of those taking a placebo.

5. Boswellia: aka ?boswellin? or Indian frankincense, this herb contains specific active anti-inflammatory ingredients, referred to as boswellic acids that animal studies have shown significantly reduce inflammation. In a study of 175 patients with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, 122 participants had reduced stiffness and inflammation just two to four weeks after starting on boswellia.

6. Evening Primrose Oil (or borage oil or black current oil): These contain the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which is useful for treating arthritic pain. In one study of 37 rheumatoid arthritis patients, those who received 1.4 grams of GLA per day reduced the number of tender joints by 36 percent, the tenderness of the joints by 45 percent, the number of swollen joints by 28 percent, and the degree of joint swelling by 41 percent. The placebo group showed no significant improvements.

7. Cayenne Pepper: (capsaicin) in the form of cayenne cream: Also called capsaicin cream, this spice comes from dried hot peppers. It alleviates pain by depleting the body's supply of substance P, a chemical component of nerve cells that transmits pain signals to the brain.

8. White Willow Bark: Aspirin is made from the bark of the white willow. People have been using white willow bark for centuries as a mild pain reliever. White willow bark does not destroy the stomach lining on contact the way aspirin does, however, it does have the same blood thinning effect as aspirin and caution is indicated.

Waist Your Breath Breathing For A Thinner Waist

The crunch exercise is the backbone of abdominal training. It develops the muscles of the abs to help you build that much-desired six-pack. But did you know that there is a way to do crunches that can actually decrease the size of your waist?

The key to this technique is the top position of the crunch where your abdominals are contracted as hard as they are able to.

When you?re in this top position, I want you to breathe in and out slowly a few times. Try to relax every other muscle except the abs. This breathing in and out will intensify the contraction (as you will find out very rapidly).

Here?s how it works:

The muscles of the abdomen are arranged in layers around your midsection, similar in concept to the rings in a tree. While you are contracting the rectus abdominus (the top-most front layer of your abs, also known as your six-pack) continuously, the deeper abdominal muscle fibers are relaxing and contracting each time you breathe.

Each time the deep fibers relax, your rectus abdominus (because it is contracting so hard) will squeeze them in a little more, making your waist-area a little smaller and tighter.

The reason this works to decrease the size of your waist is simple. Usually, most people?s abdominal muscles just kind of sit there. They don?t stay tight, therefore your midsection tends to slouch forward and outward.

This technique teaches your abdominals to maintain a degree of tightness and tone in them even when you are relaxed. This keeps your abs in, leading to a visually smaller waist.

Natural Vision Improvement Begin to See Clearer

Did you know that there are people who can see like an eagle without binoculars? But over 25% of the world's population needs eyeglasses? Do you already need them? If you are working with a computer your chances of having to use eyeglasses are growing. Do you like this idea? Do you want to change your lenses periodically for stronger ones? I do not. Please believe me. When the ophthalmologist told me I need to wear eyeglasses, a few years ago, I was so angry because of that situation. When after a few months I had to replace them with stronger ones, I was even angrier.

The eyes are very big oxygen consumers in the human body You need to breath a lot of fresh air in every single day. The lack of oxygen leads to poor eyesight, while enough oxygen leads to better eyesight and vision improvement. Let me tell you about an experience I had, which confirms this.

I walked fast in a park for one hour, breathing in slowly and keeping my breathing comfortable. Do you know what happened? I noticed real vision improvement and I felt younger. And all this happened in only one hour! It was amazing! You'll say it can't be true. It was hard to believe, but it was true. You have to try it yourself to see that it's true.

Let's see some details. The walk was at 0 degrees C. When the air is cold it has more oxygen, and leads to faster results. But you don't have to walk for one hour, or in cold air to see results. This is only speeding up the process. What's important: to take a walk in fresh air, breathing in slowly and after that retaining your breath as long is comfortable, and do it regularly, daily if possible. Even a few minutes it's fine. N.B.: If you have health problems talk to your physician first about trying a new breathing style. Never try hard, just do whatever you want to do. It has to be pleasant, and natural in every aspect. Vision improvement will show by relaxing, not forcing it. You want to help your eyes and body, not to burn them.

Let's talk now about the telescopic eyesight. There is an exercise that American Indians use to develop it. Look for 6 seconds at your nose. Then look for another 6 seconds at something 1 meter or so away, then to 5 meters, 10 meters, 50 m, 100 m, 500 m, 1000 m, 2000 m, and finally to the horizon. Each and every time glance gently for 6 seconds. Repeat the process for 3 minutes, but no more than 5 minutes. Don't force it! After that, you rub your palms until they become warm, about 30 seconds. Then cover your closed eyes with your palms and then let your eyes get relaxed and warm while you are breathing slowly a few minutes. Make sure that your hands are clean when you touch your eyes with them. Do the exercise 3 or 4 times a week. Don't overdo it. Overdoing can do more harm than good. It's better once a week than 7 times a week! Eventually you will get telescopic eyesight, a real vision improvement! Start your vision improvement NOW. Write down a simple plan to improve your vision, then put it where you can see it daily, and do it. Stick to it. Fucose is a Glyconutrient. There are 8 saccharides that make up this family:

Fucose can be found in natural products like seaweed and echinoderms. From ancient times humans have consumed them. The original gelatin was often made from seaweed before artificial gelatin was developed.

When handling wet kelp you will experience a slimy sensation. This is largely due to fucoidans on the surface of the seaweed. When you pull apart the ?slime? you will see long threads. These are the extended chains of fucoidan polysaccharides(including fucose)

Brown seaweed kelp is used to extract alginates for industrial, pharmaceutical, and food purposes but for a long time Fucoidans were not considered. Now research has revealed that Fucoidans have been found to have medicinal benefits like anticoagulants.

Fucoidans are made up mainly of the saccharide fucose. They have been found in brown marine algae and echinoderms like sea urchins and sea cucumbers. They are used in a number of medicines including ones for anticoagulant and antithrombotic therapy.

There are many different types of brown kelp, which vary in the amount of fucose they have. Research is only just now being done on this little known area of science. The kelp has been a highly prized food and medicine for many centuries. The substance, extracted from the kelp, Fucus Vesiculosus contains 16 different fucans.

They assist the kelp plant by protecting it and help its cell walls not to get damaged with changing salt concentrations. They also help the kelp and echinoderms with their reproductive systems.

Fucose is also useful for helping the human immune system and assisting the body to ward off infections, diseases and toxins. Other uses are help with inflammatory conditions and ulcers. Not only the brown kelp but also the Japanese seaweed Mozuku is used for extracting Fucoidan.

Endometriosis Common Symptoms

The symptoms of endometriosis are extremely diverse. This means that it is not easy to pinpoint the condition when a women first presents with symptoms. Fortunately, doctors are well-trained to diagnose the condition if a physical examination is performed. Normally, a physical examination and a few routine tests will provide a definitive diagnosis.

If you are concerned that you may have endometriosis, you shouldn?t worry too much about it until you consult a doctor and have the condition diagnosed. There is nothing worse than creating anxiety when it is not necessary. Worrying about endometriosis before understanding all the facts will not help at all. In fact, it will only serve to increase your stress levels.

As previously stated, there are many symptoms of endometriosis. Just because you have one or two of them does not mean you have the condition. The most common sign of endometriosis is a symptom called dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea manifests as pain before and during menstruation. Many women experience dysmenorrhea during their lifetimes ? but this does not mean they have endometriosis. Normally, there are other symptoms present.

Painful bowel movements ? which also could include constipation or other digestive problems ? are often experienced by sufferers of endometriosis, and can be considered a significant warning sign. Dyspareunia, which is defined as pain during and after the act of sexual intercourse, is also a sign of endometriosis. Dyspareunia is likely due to patches of internal bleeding caused by the abnormal growth of the uterus lining. In addition, chronic pain ? with or without sexual intercourse ? in the pelvic region may be due to the invasion of tissue into areas not accustomed to such growth.

Another symptom of endometriosis is the onset of painful and or heavy menstruation cycles. These episodes are characterized by heavier than normal bleeding and abnormal cramping. The pain in highly acute cases can be so severe that hospitalization may be required. Chronic pain can also lead to radical lifestyle changes. The ability to go out and enjoy your life may be compromised so it is important to manage the condition before it reaches a destructive stage.

The most dreaded symptom of endometriosis is infertility. Women of reproductive age are often devastated upon learning that they may be unable to conceive. It can be a traumatizing experience, however, just because you have endometriosis does not automatically indicate that you will be infertile. Women with endometriosis can and do have children. But if the condition progresses to the later stages, infertility becomes a common outcome. Generally cases of endometriosis induced infertility are not treatable through fertility treatments.

Endometriosis is associated with a host of symptoms. It is important that you achieve a diagnosis before worrying about your symptoms. On their own, individual symptoms are usually nothing to worry about. But if you are experiencing more than one of the common symptoms there is a chance that you have endometriosis and you should take steps to find out as soon as possible. The condition occurs in four stages. If you can treat it and make some lifestyle changes early on, you may be able to control the growth of uterine tissue and keep your symptoms under control.

1) ?Why do Eskimos and husky dogs do not eat polar bear liver??

Because it contains huge amounts of Vitamin A. One gram of polar bear liver contains 12 times the daily required amount of Vitamin A (1 mg).

And what happens if you overdose on Vitamin A? Here is a not-too-pleasant list: skin problems (itching, peeling off), drowsiness and sleepiness, splitting headaches, spleen and liver enlargement, painful swelling of tissues next to the bones, loss of appetite.

Vitamin A overdose during the first three months of pregnancy can cause congenital abnormalities.

2) ?Why did Linus Pauling took 40,000 mg of Vitamin C a day??

Linus Pauling, the only scientist who won 2 Nobel prizes in history (Chemistry 1954 and Peace in 1962), was a big-time believer in Vitamin C.

Pauling himself took massive amounts of it daily to prevent common cold. He started taking 12,000 mg a day and took it all the way up to 40,000 mg. He claimed he delayed the onset of his prostate cancer by twenty years by taking such unheard of quantities of Vitamin C before he died at 93.

The modern medical research could not prove that Vitamin C protects against common cold or cancer.

However, Vitamin C is of course essential for healthy gums, fighting gingivitis, healthy vision, among its many other benefits. Vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy.

3) ?What does Vitamin Choline do??

Perhaps you?ve never heard of Vitamin Choline, which is a member of the Vitamin B family. It?s other name is ?Amanitine? and is found in Lecithin.

Some doctors recommend Choline for alcoholics or diabetics. It is used to fight Alzheimer?s disease, angina, atherosclerosis, fatty liver, senility, high blood pressure, thrombosis, and strokes.

Choline is found in bananas, green leafy vegetables, legumes, beef, nuts, wheat germ, shellfish, whole grain cereals. The literature does not cite any serious side effects.

The Language of Weight Control

I would guess you are familiar with the video recorder and I am sure you?ve had to enlist the help of a small child to help you program it so you can record your favorite soap opera. Do you remember all the numbers and dates you had to enter in order to make the program work?

The computer you are reading this on has a program behind it ? this webpage has code behind it that tells the computer how to display the words in a meaningful format.

Do you know, that just as you can program a VCR or a webpage, so you can program yourself?

Did you know that you are doing this all the time every single day and you are probably not aware of it!

And did you know that probably 80-90% of this programming is negative?

When you talk to yourself you are programming your sub-conscious mind. So if you look in the mirror and say, ?Wow I look fat? your sub-conscious mind says, ?I?m fat ? must make sure it happens?. Your sub-conscious mind is incredibly powerful yet so few people ever really bother to access its abilities. In fact most people are happy to let it run riot and cause chaos!

Here?s another of my favorites for you. You will, I bet, frequently say to people ?I?m trying to lose weight? ? but do you actually know what it means?

Let?s start by looking at the word try as in trying in the above sentence. You know the dictionary definition of try, but what does it really mean?

Try means that you will give it a go, put a bit of effort in to it, but you won?t give it your all because you don?t really want to achieve it. And the nice thing for you is that you can tell everyone you tried afterwards and enjoy their sympathy when it didn?t work.

Try basically means you are HAPPY TO FAIL!

Now let?s look at the last two words in that sentence ?lose weight?.

What would you do if you lost your car keys? Think about it ? what would you do?

You would find them again, wouldn?t you?

Whenever you say lose, it is implicit in the word that you are going to find it again. So when you say ?lose weight? you are telling your sub-conscious ?I want to shed a bit of weight and then find it again sometime in the future please.? And guess what? Your sub-conscious obliges!

So how do we improve that sentence?

If you had an old sofa you no longer wanted, you wouldn?t try to lose it would you?

What would you do?

You would GET RID OF it, wouldn?t you? You don?t want to find your old sofa turning back up on your doorstep in six months time and asking if you missed it? Or worse still, turning up with a matching chair and pouf too?

So now let?s rephrase our original sentence (I am trying to lose weight) into something that will program your sub-conscious for success.

?I am getting rid of weight?

Say it to yourself now ? how does it feel?

This simple change in language may sound childish and ridiculous, but do it and notice the difference ? just this tiny change can make a massive difference in your weight loss program.

Prostate Cancer: The Male Equivalent of Female Breast Cancer

Over 30,000 men will die this year from prostate cancer. Not only that, but it has been quoted that over 200,000 new prostate cancer cases are reported each year in men as well. While prostate cancer is fairly treatable if it is found in it's earliest stages, it still is a major concern for men, especially men over the age of 40 when you consider the fact that one in six men are diagnosed with this cancer.

What can you do to prevent this disease, and what are the measures for ensuring the cancer goes into a permanent remission?

The Diet/Prostate Cancer Link

While there is much speculation about this, there have been studies to strongly suggest that diet has a profound impact on cancer prevention of all types, not just prostate cancer. Further, the regulation of one's blood sugar may play an even bigger role than we think in suppressing the growth of cancer cells, and slowing or completely stopping the growth of existing cancer cells.

One such diet used in the prevention and reversal of cancer is the macrobiotic diet, which is a very restrictive diet based in sea vegetables and whole grains. The food groups of dairy and most fats is eliminated, and sugars are strictly forbidden. Microwaves are not used to cook foods, and minimal cooking of foods is advised to maintain their nutritional and antioxidant value as much as possible.

This diet actually originated in Japan, and has gained a lot of notoriety over here in the states for having particularly therapeutic value in the healing and prevention of cancer and other diseases. If you are thinking about going on a diet like this, that promotes healing and helps to prevent prostate cancer, I would encourage you to read about this diet online and see if it sounds like something you could do.

Other than that, common sense seems to prevail in diet guidelines for prostate cancer prevention. The usual guidelines include staying away from sugars, eating an abundance of leafy green veggies, the darker green is even better, and avoiding processed and prepared foods.

Another good guideline is to eat organic whenever possible. Organic foods are free of pesticides, chemicals, preservatives, and hormones that are common contaminants of most foods sold in grocery stores. Try to stick to unprocessed, raw foods whenever it is feasible to do so, and drink filtered or distilled water whenever possible.

Be Active, Stay Active: Health is a State of Mind

Maintaining an active lifestyle is beneficial for almost any type of cancer. Active people tend to stick to healthy diets, and tend to maintain a healthier outlook on life and health. Don't let anyone tell you there is not a huge mind/body connection, because there definitely is.

Vitamins Children's and Multivitamins

Most parents' think their children are eating a fairly healthy and if not they throw their hands up in the air and give up. They then ply their children with multivitamins. No it's not a bad thing however, many children think that vitamins are candies, especially now that they come in gummi candy, gumballs, and cute animal and cartoon character shapes. - This poses a serious issue because if they are in children's reach they could be ?sneaking? extra tablets without you knowing it. Since many children's multivitamins are fortified with iron it could cause an overdose. If you even suspect that your child has ingested too many call your local poison control center immediately and get your child to an emergency room immediately. An overdose of multivitamins with iron could cause your child to become seriously ill or even die. It's imperative vitamins and all manner of medication be kept out of the reach of children.

Generic multivitamins are fine if you think your child needs it but for the most part, children get most of their vitamins from their diets. If you child has special needs such not being able to drink milk or eat dairy products or not liking them s/he will still need to get the calcium from other sources. Consult with your child's pediatrician for advice.

If your child's diet is bad one week, do not give him more than one vitamin a day. Too much of any one vitamin could prevent others from being absorbed by the body. For example, if your child gets to much calcium it could prevent the absorption of other vitamins such as iron. You can expect to give your child vitamins well into the teen years because children are not always going to make healthy food choices.

Before you buy vitamins know that there are opposing opinions regarding iron in vitamins for children. One school of though is that you in fact should be given vitamins with iron. Another school of thought says under no circumstances should vitamins with iron be given to children. In my own experience my child showed signs of low iron in infancy. At the advice of his doctor we put him on iron fortified vitamins and he is healthy now. Always check with your doctor on this.

Too much iron in the blood can cause a disease called Hemochromatosis. The body becomes unable to utilize the iron and it is not washed out of the body easily. It is a nearly always-fatal disease and can cause serious health issues and even death.

Calcium is a very important part of your child's diet to help them build strong bones and muscles. Calcium is a mineral. Children who eat ice cream, yogurt, and cheese or who drink milk usually get enough calcium from their diets. There are those who do not like dairy products or they don't like them. It is easy to help these children get what they need by giving them calcium-fortified juices, cereals and vitamins.

Most children get enough fluoride from drinking fluoride treated water or fluoride bottled water, and/or toothpaste. Do not give your child fluoride supplements without checking with your child's doctor. Too much fluoride could permanently stain your child's teeth. This totally defeats the purpose of the treatment of water and the use of tooth paste with fluoride that are meant to protect your child's teeth.

Infant multivitamins are usually available in liquid form and given with an eyedropper. These drops usually contain vitamins A, C, and D. They may also have added iron. They may also contain other vitamins and minerals such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B-12.

Children's multivitamins also commonly come in chewable forms and the shapes of cartoon characters or animals. They also come now in gummi candy form and gumballs. If it is difficult to get your child to take a vitamin try getting one that is like his favorite character or in gumball form. Monitor your child while he's taking his vitamin. I personally, give my child the vitamin rather than allowing him to do it on his own. He may not take it or he may take too many. Vitamins for children can be a very good thing however too much of a good thing can be fatal. Keep them out of reach of children.

Your child may not always eat what is right and giving him vitamins may offset some of that, however, it is better to err on the side of caution and check with the pediatrician before making any adjustments to your child's diet. Fun shapes are fine but your child could believe they are 'candy' and so they should be out of his reach or locked away in a cabinet.

Age When ADHD is Diagnosed

Some parents notice signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in their kids before they even start school. The child may not be able to sit still for very long or pay attention to games or television. But just because a parent thinks their child shows signs of ADHD does not mean that they have the disorder. Because children develop and grow at very different rates, it is crucial to get a professional's opinion of the child's growth and behavior. You may want to wait until the child enters school to definitely diagnose the disorder.

ADHD may not be noticed by parents or another family members, or it may go unnoticed until the child runs into problems at school. Because school is very structured and task-oriented, ADHD is more apparent than anywhere else. Due to these circumstances, it is often a teacher who first notices ADHD in a child. Teachers come into contact every day with all types of children, and over time they become aware of children who have learning difficulties in comparison to the average child. The Healing Arts: Exploring HeartConsciousness Part 2 You Can Remember It

In the last installment I presented just a few examples of knowledge that science has gained that indicates the heart is not only a pumping organ, but also a center for the assimilation of information. These few were chosen to allow a mental picture to help bridge the gap between concept and experience. I?m well aware of the dangers of leaping to conclusions based on just a few facts.

Were not allusions to heart-consciousness so much a part of all cultures, however, this information would not have the implications it does. But when you tally the list of people from all walks of life throughout all ages who have spoken about working with this seat of consciousness, and then learn that there is empirical evidence to support that your heart also conducts ?brain-like? activity, the only thing left to do is to test it against your own experience.

Spend a little time with the concepts that have been presented here. Now, find a place to relax and think/feel back to times when, instead of experiencing the moment as if looking through the windows of your eyes, you felt the seat of your consciousness to be in your chest. Can you recall times when, instead of logically working through the steps of A + B ?E x F = G, you simply ?knew? (some people express it as ?in your gut?) what direction to head, thing to do, emotion to express or answer to declare?

Most of us don?t have to think back any further than the last time we were ?in love?. Do you recall how ?tuned-in? you felt to the other person? Was this based on a linear thought process, or embrace a sequence of events that rapidly moved from sensing to feeling to interpreting to acting with hardly a moment or worry in the interim?

Can you recall moments when ?moving in synch? with that special other meant such clich?s as ?reading her like a book,? and ?anticipating his every need?? Of course, we all know it can go deeper than this. For example, connection as a force has no spatial or time limitations. I recall a number of times when my mother, in the midst of, usually something to do with the kitchen and dinner now that I think of it, would clutch her chest and, exclaiming something like ?I need to call Anne!? (her sister), pick up the phone only to hear Anne?s voice rather than a dial tone.

Perhaps a more effective memory jog would be to go to a time after you spent, for example, a rapturous weekend with a lover. To what degree did you actually, consciously have to move away from that guiding feeling in your chest and, literally, back in to your brain?

What did the transition back into your brain-consciousness feel like in your relation to the world? Another way of saying this is, metaphorically, how many times did you find you stopping yourself from hugging someone at the water cooler because you ?thought better of it??

Let?s go back a little further to when you were discovering this world for the first time, as a child. Can you recall, not the experience of wonder but being a part of that wonder? Can you recall a time when everything was speaking to you (and you did not hold back answering!)?

Unfortunately, some of us have to go back further than others to re-connect with this way of being. Most of us, in fact, were socialized at a very early age to distrust our heartfelt impressions, disregard the things we ?knew? in favor of things we could prove, and control our unbridled emotions rather than express ourselves as was appropriate and then move on to new realizations.

Ironically enough, memories that often stand out are those where, amidst living the experience of being totally connected with the moment, there is a form of rebuke from an adult, basically communicating something like, ?Get down to Earth!?

And we do. We do get down to Earth quite quickly because the dominant culture teaches us what is acceptable and what is not. Those that don?t learn these ways (and there will be more on this) are most often ostracized and punished.

The reason I bring all this up is that I?m here to re-mind you that at one time this way of looking at the world lived inside you, so it must be there at all times, especially now.

For now, all I ask is that you allow the possibility that you have more than one center of consciousness in your body, that you are capable of accessing it again, and that you can strengthen your ability to apply it to, yes, even this practical world!

The seed that I?m hoping to plant is that you simply become curious about relating to the world through the consciousness of your heart and become willing to exercise the ?muscles? that you have that help you use it along with your brain.

In the next installment, I?ll be talking about heart-consciousness and the indigenous way of being.

Take A Break From Working Out

Hi Ray, I am hoping you can give me some advice about my workout routine. I have been working out since January which is 10 months now and I do it 6 days a week consisting of dumbbells, my home gym and my treadmill at home and had been very motivated up until the last few weeks.

What I was wondering is do I need to allow myself some kind of break? I do not want to workout on a routine consisting of anything less than 6 days a week because I'm afraid if I do, I will then fall of the wagon so to speak. I do the treadmill every day of those six days and all the weight workouts every other day of the week.

I am just wondering if this is normal to feel less than motivated. Should I give myself a break maybe? For how long?

Answer: Hi Kim. Everyone has different levels of recovery ability and enthusiasm. Because of this, some people can handle more exercise than others. Also sometimes the workouts people do, really don't interest them at all. In other words, its not fun for them.

To keep it simple though, if you are tired then you should rest. If your drop in motivation has nothing to do with a lack of results from your workouts then you are legitimately tired. If however you have not been seeing much in the way of results from all your hard work, then of course you are getting down in the dumps! You need a change in your routine or another of the many fitness program variables.

In my experience as a personal trainer, I seem to run into two kinds of people. The first group needs to take a week off every 6-8 weeks or they burn out and catch whatever kind of cold or flu is going around. The second group uses intuition. They workout for weeks on end until they wake up one day and say I don't really feel like going to the gym today. This could be 3 months or half a year into working out. At this point they take a couple of days to a week off and then come back fully charged and raring to go. The thing about these folks is that they know that they really do love working out, so when they don't feel like going to the gym they know their body is actually tired. It has nothing to do with skipping out because they actually enjoy working out. They want to be there, it the just the body has had enough for now.

If I was you, I would take a week or two off but continue to eat very well and clean. During this time off, reevaluate your workout routine and make sure it includes things you really love to do. Not all working out has to be with weights and cardio machines. Working out can be anything, so make sure you find your thing that keeps you revved up. Try coming back to working out with the new items you have discovered and with a bit more attention to what you body is telling you and not only what the workout book says you are supposed to do.

4 Tips for Fast Fat Loss Part I

Fat Loss Tip #1) Train With Weights

Working out with weights when trying to lose body fat has numerous important benefits. First, an intense weight training session burns calories during the actual workout.

Second, an extremely important benefit is that intense weight training elevates your metabolism for up to 39 hours after your actual workout. In other words, because of the intense weight workout, your metabolism has been stimulated where you are now burning more calories while you are doing nothing.

Carbohydrates power intense weight training sessions. The more intense the session, the more you deplete your arbohydrate stores and the more fat is burned during the recovery phase, i.e. after the workout.

In other words, as the intensity of the training increases there is a proportionate increase in fat burning after the workout.

One study showed that 15 exercise sessions per month (50 minute sessions at 50 percent of oxygen uptake) could lead to an extra 2 plus pounds per month of fat loss, strictly from the elevated metabolism and extra calories burned - while doing nothing! That's an extra 26 pounds plus, of fat burned per year.

Another extremely important aspect of fat loss that occurs from training with weights is adding leas muscle to your body. Lean muscle is metabolically active, i.e., muscle burns calories even while doing nothing. So, the more lean muscle you have, the higher your resting metabolism and the more calories you burn each day while doing nothing.

Studies have estimated that for each pound of muscle that you add to your body, you burn another 25 to 50 calories per day while doing nothing. So, an extra 10 pounds of muscle may burn approximately 250 to 500 calories a day, or an extra pound of fat every 7 to 14 days, without making any other changes.

This is essential to taking off the fat and keeping it off. You see, when you add muscle to your body, you greatly increase the number of calories your burn each day. So, once you achieve your fat loss goals you can start eating more food without putting the fat back on, as long as you have built muscle (and keep it by continuing to train with weights)!

On the flip side, if you don't train with weights while dieting and losing weight, two very bad things will occur. First, at least half of the weight you lose will be muscle. And this causes number two, which is that your metabolism gets slower, causing progress to eventually grind to a halt, leading to gaining all the weight back and more.

But now you are even worse off before because your body composition is worse than when you were previously at this weight. You replaced muscle with fat, so now your metabolism is even slower, making it easier to gain even more fat, and harder to take it off.

As you can see, training with weights is an extremely powerful and necessary component of any successful weight loss program. Look for Part II coming soon!

Two factors that has caused the spread of viral hepatitis around the world is:

It is much easier to fly to another continent in a matter of hours. We can eat fresh produce grown in countries all around the world.

These are just two reasons the hepatitis viruses have been able to spread more rapidly.

Eat all melons or watermelons together and not with other fruit and wait 1/2 hour before eating other fruit. Melons require their specific enzymes to be digested in the stomach so other fruit eaten with melons will just sit in your stomach waiting to be digested. (Not a good idea since the other fruit will begin to rot while waiting to be digested.)

By eating in this way you are assisting your body?s elimination cycle. This helps your body to eliminate toxins and acids from your body and blood by increasing your urination and bowel movements. It is these toxins and acids that make you sick and overweight.

Eating solid food for breakfast ? eggs potatoes, rice, meat, cereal, milk, and so on interfere with your body?s elimination cycle and eventually leads to sickness and excess weight. It takes over 3 hours to digest heavy and solid food. The food you should be eating, in the morning. should digest quickly, within ? hour, to help remove toxins, acids, and waste from your body.

Heavy food slows down the elimination of toxins from your body and this causes more toxins to remain in the body to get stored at fat and acids. Acids are the main cause of most illnesses and so you want to have an alkaline body. Fruits and vegetables give you an alkaline body.

It takes ? hour or so to digest fruit and fruit juices. Because of this, they help to cleanse your body of waste during the morning cycle. Fruits are 70% water just like your body and this gives them the cleansing action they have and that your body needs.

So if you are not already having fruit and fruit juices for breakfast and snacks, start slowly changing your habits, if you want to lose weight and feel better.

Arthritis Start the Healing Process

The first Western disease I was ever familiar with as a little boy was arthritis. My beloved paternal grandmother, Bertha Cooper, suffered from this pathology for many years. She had it very bad in her wrists and joints. I remember her asking me if I would go to the corner liquor store on the corner of 101st Street and Avalon Boulevard in Watts, California, and buy her some Ben Gay, a white pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory rubbing cream. She would rub Ben Gay on her wrists and joints and her tendons as well.

As a little boy, I didn?t understand disease. I didn?t know how my grandmother developed arthritis. All I knew is that she had it (and claimed it too).

However, when the Universe bestowed its Akashic Records of health knowledge upon me in the late 1990s, I finally understood why Grandma Sis (Bertha) developed and suffered from arthritis. You see, my grandmother was originally from the South, Mississippi to be exact. The ideal dinner was ?soul food.? My grandmother was an excellent cook and I never tasted any food back in my deaf, dumb, and blind days and years that tasted better than my paternal grandmother?s food/cooking.

However, while this so-called food, soul food, tasted good, I now understand that taste is not the criterion or measuring stick for what is healthy or nutritional. It was Grandma?s good tasting soul food that did her in with arthritis and tendonitis. Yes, all that cornbread, collard and mustard greens, salt pork, candied yams, fried chicken, liver, catfish, pork chops, rock Cornish hen, neck bones, ham, white rice, etc. eventually did her (and the rest of my family members) in. Not to mention eating all that white, refined Webber?s and Wonder bread, flap jacks (pancakes), syrup and biscuits, bacon, sausages, jelly cake, jelly sandwiches, saltine crackers, Vienna sausages, potted meat, Spam, hog?s head cheese, liverwurst, etc. And what about all that hot cocoa, coffee (laced with white sugar and dairy cream), butter milk, pet milk, Kool-Aid, and soda pop that she drunk?

She didn?t smoke cigarettes like her five sons, but she would roll up her own smokes with Prince Albert brand tobacco and Zig Zag paper. My childhood friends thought my grandmother smoked marijuana. It was a little embarrassing until they found out what it was she was really smoking.

I mentioned all of the above to let you all know that my grandmother?s arthritis was caused by what she ate and drank on a daily basis through ignorance, tradition, and habit.

All that meat converted into uric acid in my grandmother?s joints and ligaments. The starches broke down into carbonic acid and also made its way into her joints. And so did the lactic acid from the brake down of the dairy products she consumed.

The smoking also created an over acid condition in my grandmother as well. She also had bouts with gout, which is nothing but arthritis in the ankle area.

You see, arthritis is a condition of inflammation of the joints. That?s all it is. The Latin word ?Arth? means ?joints,? and the English suffix, ?it is? means ?inflammation.? What is inflammation? A burning! What causes this burning or inflammation? ACID!!! Plain and simple!

Grandma Sis was lucky, eventually dying from degeneracy (that doctors call natural death). However, her sons (and daughter-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren) were not so lucky, dying from the insidious cancer, including my father from lung cancer in 1994 and my mother from pancreatic cancer in 1999.

My family could not, would not, and to this very day, still will not believe that what they put into their mouths cause their pathologies and eventually kills them. It was easy to write me off when I was a Muslim and member of the Nation of Islam in the early 1990s, simply saying ?that boy is mad at white folks and the world!? But today as a Naturist, what?s their excuse? Nothing but ignorance and traditional paralysis! Soul food is a tradition, Djehuty! Yes, a tradition that leads to an early grave!

One of the greatest contributors of arthritis is collard and mustard greens. Sorry Black folks, Negroes, and soul food lovers! But this is true! Greens are laced with ?oxalic? acid and this oxalic acid is greatly produced when you cook the greens. This is true! And for you rat feces-laced chocolate lovers out there, your precious chocolate also contains oxalic acid.

Now, I don?t want you thinking soul food is the cause of arthritis, because a lot of white folks, Mexicans/Latinos, and Asians also suffer from arthritis. Like soul food, the Standard American Diet will also cause arthritis. Arthritis is an American disease!

If you understand arthritis, you should understand tendonitis and gout. They are acidic fluid build up problems in the joints that cause inflammation (pain).

Most modern day suffers of arthritis (and tendonitis and gout) are fighting the symptoms of these inflammatory diseases with pharmaceutical grade drugs. Even though God instructed Bible believers to heal themselves with herbs (Revelations 22:2, Ezekiel 47:12, and Pslams 104:14), in their strange obedience to God, they take the enemy?s pharmaceutical drugs that prolong the arthritis. Why and how? Because pharmaceutical grade drugs, though made from alkaloids, eventually break down into ACID (especially ascetic acid, which eats your red blood cells up) in the body, and acid produces inflammation, so how intelligent is it to take something to target the symptom which eventually lengthens and worsen the initial condition?

Mother Nature has provided healing for arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. To heal from arthritis, all one needs to consume is certain herbs. Herbs that are anti-inflammatory in nature are the best to heal from arthritis. These herbs include Meadowsweet, Peppermint, Wintergreen, Birch, White and Black Willow Bark and Balm of Gilead.

However, other certain herbs work synergistically with the herbs supra. Personally, no healing from arthritis can take place efficiently without the following herbs: Devil?s Claw, Boswellia (Frankincense), Uva Ursi, Mullein leaves, Saffron, Cayenne pepper, Feverfew, and Guaiac wood.

Devil?s Claw, Boswellia, Uva Ursi, and Mullein are the paramount arthritis herbs. They greatly counteract mucus, which is the byproduct of acid, which causes inflammation.

Organic sulfur, commonly called MSM Sulfur, is also great in healing arthritis. So is Noni juice!

You can make your own healing salve as well from a base butter or oil such as shea or cocoa butter, coconut, olive, or almond oil (or any other good oil) and add in a few drops (10-15 drops) of the following essential oils: Peppermint, Clove, Wintergreen, Eucalyptus, Birch, and/or Spearmint.

You can rub this salve directly on your joints or other problems area. It is very soothing and healing.

And of course, as an herbalist, I have formulated my own Joint Formula that consists of all the herbs mentioned above that is a powerful little formula that works wonders for me when my wrists start to hurt from excessive typing (typing up all that legal pleading).

I can?t forget about magnet therapy as well for arthritis. Magnets make a problem or injured area alkaline and also enhances circulation to the problem area so that healing can begin.

My good friend and brother, Mark Lomax, a musician, healed himself from serious bouts of gout, another acid condition. It?s been a few years now since he had gout. What did he do? Soaking inflamed body parts in hot water and essential oils of Peppermint and Eucalyptus is also beneficial for arthritis.

But most importantly in fighting arthritis is modified diet. Cut out or cut down on meat and dairy products. These are two of the biggest culprits in causing arthritis. A vegetable cocktail consisting of celery, parsley, apple and/or carrot (for sweetness and base) 3-4 times weekly will greatly remove acid buildup in the joints. By all means, avoid all acidic beverages (beer, soda pop, milk, orange juice, wine, coffee, etc.).

Man, life is so wonderful when you know how to heal and prevent disease. The understanding of diseases is just as important. Sometimes I?m full of grief and sorrow from my knowledge and knowing that people suffer from a lack of knowledge (and insanity too). See Ecclesiastes 1:18 and Hosea 4:6

However, the children of the future, including my son, Asim, and daughter, Layla, and other Conscious Minds offspring ? Nadya, Najee, Elijah, Asar, Sunshine and the newest edition from Melia and Obea, and the others (out here on the West Coast in Los Angeles) will all benefit from this profound knowledge of proper diet as well as from my suffering and grief, as well as their parents. As much as I loved soul food and my relative?s cooking back in my death (Negro) days, you couldn?t put a gun to my head and compel me to eat a piece of chicken or pork today, and I mean that!
